A New Orleans manufacturer of conveyor belts plans to more than double the size of its facility in Southeast Louisiana over the next year, state and company officials announced.

Intralox will invest $60 million in the complex in Hammond, which produces modular plastic conveyor belts and components that are shipped to the company’s global assembly facilities. The belts are used by customers in the food, industrial, and e-commerce sectors.

The project will add 300,000 square-feet to the current 130,000-square-foot Hammond operations and bolster the site’s output by 50%. Intralox expects to create 425 new jobs at the facility, and Louisiana officials said the number of both direct and indirect jobs created by the expansion would exceed 1,000.

Company executives said Intralox experienced significant growth over the past several years, and that the project “enables us to rapidly increase our production and assembly capacity.”

“We look forward to expanding our local workforce with the added benefit of meeting the increased demand of our customers around the world,” Intralox President Edel Blanks said in the announcement.

Intralox is slated to receive a state incentive package, including a $1 million grant for infrastructure improvements and assistance through the state’s job development program. The expansion is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2022.
