Ruckus was created at Ahmedabad airport on Tuesday morning as the inline baggage system was affected and consequently nearly about a dozen flights were delayed. Passengers had a harrowing time as many of them had to catch connecting flights and their travel plans went awry. The conveyor belt stopped working and long queues of passengers for check-in were witnessed at the airport. The manual system was not activated and hence there were problems in luggage loading. This resulted in delay of flights by 1.5 to 2 hours. Some airlines requested airport authorities to start baggage checking manually but they did not respond, an official of an airline said. The system stopped at 6.30 am and it took two hours to get it repaired. The baggage system resumed at 8.30 am but by the time there was a huge delay. Few airline companies have made written representations to airport management about the issue. It may be noted that few days back airport management had claimed that inline baggage system was upgraded and it would work more efficiently and save time. But within a fortnight the new system has developed snags and passengers had to wait desperately for the luggage to be dropped. The airport is witnessing nearly 28,000 footfalls daily during these festival days.
